9/27/2014 Henleyville Road Race 45+ 4

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by Ron Faulk: 9/27/2014 Henleyville Road Race Road Race 45+ 4:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: Charles Magnuson, Dave Bryant, Gary Neiman, Matt Conidaris, Pete Gemmell, Randy Floyd, Ron Faulk.

Field: Total of 24 registered riders. Pete Gemmell finished 8th, Randy Floyd was 12th, Dave Bryant 14th, Tom Wood 16th, Charley Magnuson 17th, Matt Conidaris 18th and Gary Neiman 21st.
Course: Course consisted of 3 laps, for a total of 54 miles. Mostly flat course with a few minor rollers and a slightly steeper set of rollers at the feed zone..
Conditions: Clear and pleasant. Minimal wind.

Plan: Get Pete the points he needed for NorCal BAR, cover attacks and try to get someone in a successful break. The remaining riders would work to disrupt/block the front of the chase group if we were successful getting someone into a break.

Race: Pete escaped off the front about two miles into the race and slowly disappeared into the distance. Matt, Randy and I patrolled the front of the group, sat on wheels and generally disrupted the chasers. This gave our team a great reason to sit in and do no work, saving our energy for later in the race. About 2/3 of the way through the 1st lap, Kris Blee, Toby Katz, Troy Underwood, Jeff Brooks and Matt Marks organized at the front and started reeling Pete in. Pete was caught at around mile 3 of the second lap. The rest of the second lap was for the most part uneventful with everyone near the front marking […]

05-11-2014 Regalado Road Race 45+ 4

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by Ron Faulk: Sunday, May 11, 2014 Regalado Road Race Road Race 45+ 4:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: Pete Gemmell, Ron Faulk.

Field: Total of 15 registered riders. Small field that was combined with the 35+4, 35+5 and Cat5 groups for a total of 21 riders. New teammate David Austin rode with us also.

Course: Course consisted of 3 laps, for a total of 51 miles. 17 mile loop. Head west from the start on Warnerville, then south on Stoddard, east on Alvarado, south on Ellenwood, east on Claribel, north on Tim Bell (1 mile dirt section) and west again to the finish on Warnerville.

Conditions: Warm and windy. Gusts to 25 MPH at times out of the northwest.

Plan: Stay out of the wind as much as possible. Ride in the top 5 as much as possible. Go to the front when we turned north on Tim Bell into the dirt section. Watch for breaks and attacks and jump in if it looked like it might stick.

Race: The race started out at a neutral pace from the parking lot at the nursery on Wamble Road and proceeded south to the “real” start at Warnerville Road. I had pre ridden the first 1/5 mile on Warnerville and had turned around and pre ridden the finish on Warnerville also, so I knew that traveling west and north we would be getting a pretty stiff head wind. The wind was pretty stiff out of the north west, so we had a nice tailwind heading to the start and then were slowed significantly as we turned west onto Warnerville Road. The race was center line rule, so I planted myself on the yellow line and let others block the wind for me as we traveled west. Pete jumped off of the front as […]

04-26-2014 Wente Vineyards Classic Road Race 55+ 4

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by Ron Faulk: Saturday, April 26, 2014 Wente Vineyards Classic Road Race Road Race 55+ 4:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: Jack Wenzel, Matt Conidaris, Ron Faulk, Will Parks.

Field: Total of 47 registered riders. New BC team members Damien Anderson and Tom Wood were also present at this race.
Course: Course consisted of 3 laps, for a total of 45 miles. Three lap course with one significant climb which is also the finish climb. The race starts on Greenville Road, with approximately 4 miles of riding before the race reaches the top of Carroll Road, which is where the finish line is located. So our category climbed Carroll Road 4 times..
Conditions: Cool and partly cloudy. Slight breeze

Plan: Hang on up the main climb and watch for breakaways. Stay top 10 as much as possible and keep an eye on the stronger climbers in the group.

Race: Our race started at a moderate pace until we hit the main finish climb on Carroll Road approximately 4 miles into the first lap. At this time a group of about twenty five riders raised the tempo a bit up the hill and over the top, breaking the field up. I found myself in a pack with riders I had raced with the weekend before at the Copperopolis Road Race. I knew also that Harold Reimer was somewhere in the group and I knew that he is a strong climber, so I watched carefully to see what would happen. I found out later that Jack Wenzel flatted leading into the climb on the first lap, so then I knew that we would be down one rider. As we topped out at the highest point of the first lap and began our descent on Flynn, […]

Flat with rollers for the next 10 miles or so. One more lesser climb approximately 5 miles from the finish with a sketchy descent on a potholed road. 90% of the course is […]

9-8-2013 Willow Hills Circuit Race (Folsom Cyclebration) Criterium 45+ 4

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by John Kretschmann: Sunday, September 8, 2013 Willow Hills Circuit Race (Folsom Cyclebration) Criterium 45+ 4:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: DJ Singh, John Kretschmann, Matt Conidaris, Pete Gemmell, Ron Faulk.

Field: Total of 35 registered riders.
Course: Course consisted of 7 laps, for a total of 16.8 miles. 2.4mi/lap, 16.8 total miles (7 total laps). 334′ total climbing (48’/lap). Fun course with a couple of small hills and a round-a-bout. Long sprint finish (~300m from the final corner). Closed course, good-to-excellent pavement..
Conditions: Perfect. Mid-70s, sunny, clear, light breeze.

Plan: Not much of a team strategy. Personally, was hoping to get a better placing than yesterday (14th) and was really focused on the strategy which I had planned to follow yesterday – sit-in, don’t waste energy unnecessarily, and follow the Goss/Fales train on the last lap.

Race: I rode to the race from home. Only took about 10 minutes. Used the same number as yesterday so I was already pinned and ready to go. Took one lap around the course to warm-up with just a couple of short jumps to test the legs and get the heart rate up. Pace was relatively slow at the start but picked up after the first lap. There were a couple of short-lived flyers in the first half the race that didn’t stick. I did a good job of […]
