Race: Snelling Race Report: by Gary Neiman

Weather: 55 to start going to the low 60’s. Wind was moderate to start, 10 mph?, forecasted to go to 19. It did at least that by the fourth lap with gusts probably being higher.

Strategy: Work with Bikes Plus to put three of our riders (Mike, Randy F. and I) and four of their riders in a break following the first lap. Others from both teams were to stay near the front and block. If that failed, Randy V. was the designated rider and we would form a lead-out train to deliver him to the line with me doing the final the lead out.

Race: Field of 60 registered with ourselves, Fun Sport Bikes, Folsom Bike, Kovarus/Wells Fargo and Bicycles Plus/Sierra Nevada having at lest 4 riders registered. We were represented by Ron, Randy F., Randy V., Matt, Mike, Will, Jim, John E. and myself.

The road was in good condition, the rough areas were still rough, but noRead More »2013-02-23 Snelling Race Report 45+ 4/5

Race: Folsom Winter Criterium
Date: 2013-02-09
Category/Field Size: Men 35+ 3/4 – Field Size 75

Quickie race report for the Folsom crit yesterday …

35+ 3/4 field, full with 75 riders. Only Randy Floyd & myself representing BC. Weather was near perfect. Course is wide-open, pavement is excellent. There were 9 primes and with 35+ and Cat 3s in the race I figured it was going to be a fast sufferfest. I was hoping for top-20 and would have been happy just to stay with the main field and not get dropped. Folsom Bike and Bike Plus were both well represented and I was expecting to see some team play.

Race didn’t exactly play out as expected. There wasn’t much teamwork and the pace, for the most part, wasn’t all that fast. The first couple of primes livened things up but after that it seems like most guys were content just to sit in. My goal was to try and stay in the top 10-to-15 riders and for the most part I did that. I contested one prime and gotRead More »2013-02-09 Folsom Winter Criterium Race Report 35+ 3/4

Race: The 1st Annual El Dorado Hills Cyclocross race was this past Saturday and what a race it was. I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to ride as my wife & I were heading up to Tahoe to celebrate our anniversary. However, the Master B race was early enough (10am) that I was able to sneak out in the morning:) Ron & myself represented BC in the 45+ category. I don’t think Sean raced.

They started all the Bs together (45 riders) and the course starts right off with a handful of sharp, technical corners and then a barely ride-able sand pit. It was really chaotic with riders un-clipping, falling down, etc. Somehow both Ron and I were able to navigate our way through to the first climb where things finally began to thin out. I managed to pass a bunch of riders here but the leaders had already built upRead More »2012-10-13 El Dorado Hills CycloCross 45+ B

Race: The 2nd race of the Sacramento Cyclocross series was this past weekend in Grass Valley at Condon Park.
Date: 2012-10-07
Category/Field Size: Men 45+ B – Field Size 24

Course Description: This is a great venue up at elevation in the pines with lots of shade, a lake, etc. Very challenging course that goes up, up, and up to the top of a ridge then down, down, down back to the start. There is probably more climbing in this race than in all the other races in the series combined. It’s also fairly technical, especially when it’s the last race of the day when the course is really chewed up. There are several tight corners with soft, loamy dirt and then there’s the u-turn hill. It’s short, steep, and by 2pm it consisted of about 6″ of soft dirt with nothing firm to get traction on. The only way it was rideable was Read More »2012-10-07 Sac CX CycloCross 45+ B
