Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by Ron Faulk: Sunday, May 11, 2014 Regalado Road Race Road Race 45+ 4:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: Pete Gemmell, Ron Faulk.

Field: Total of 15 registered riders. Small field that was combined with the 35+4, 35+5 and Cat5 groups for a total of 21 riders. New teammate David Austin rode with us also.

Course: Course consisted of 3 laps, for a total of 51 miles. 17 mile loop. Head west from the start on Warnerville, then south on Stoddard, east on Alvarado, south on Ellenwood, east on Claribel, north on Tim Bell (1 mile dirt section) and west again to the finish on Warnerville.

Conditions: Warm and windy. Gusts to 25 MPH at times out of the northwest.

Plan: Stay out of the wind as much as possible. Ride in the top 5 as much as possible. Go to the front when we turned north on Tim Bell into the dirt section. Watch for breaks and attacks and jump in if it looked like it might stick.

Race: The race started out at a neutral pace from the parking lot at the nursery on Wamble Road and proceeded south to the “real” start at Warnerville Road. I had pre ridden the first 1/5 mile on Warnerville and had turned around and pre ridden the finish on Warnerville also, so I knew that traveling west and north we would be getting a pretty stiff head wind. The wind was pretty stiff out of the north west, so we had a nice tailwind heading to the start and then were slowed significantly as we turned west onto Warnerville Road. The race was center line rule, so I planted myself on the yellow line and let others block the wind for me as we traveled west. Pete jumped off of the front as Read More »05-11-2014 Regalado Road Race 45+ 4

Race Report: Copperopolis Road Race Report (Group A): by Mike Ewing

We had 31 starters, John Ensign, Randy Floyd, Ron Faulk and DJ Singh were representing Body Concepts.

The rough course showed it’s itself immediately! Near the top of the first hill Jim Forester of Cushman Wakefield made a move. Fred Crone followed, we chased until part way around the lake. Made the catch and Fred said to me where were you to help? We continued to push around the course and down that fast, bumpy descent. Got to the finish area on the 1st lap and Fred started offering bribes for help at the finish.

On the second lap, up the first hill started to notice the fatigue setting in because of the pace and road conditions. Ryosei of Sho-Air made a move at the top of the first hill, followed by Kevin Odonell of Cushman. They got a gap on us of about 100 meters by the top of the hill. 7 of us were following, I was feeling the courses wrath. I focused on holding the wheel of Robert Leever of B P. Dan Goldsmith of Sho-Air was also near, but I knew he would not work with me to chase his guy down. We crested the hill before the lake, I was feelingRead More »2013-03-30 Copperopolis Road Race Report 45+ 4

Overall, I thought the pace of this race was not too fast. I think most were waiting for the selection to occur on the final lap, which it did. BC always had riders at the front, which was great to see. I was at the front on the first lap but dropped back on the gravel section and it took most of the next lap to work my way back up. Once I got there, I stayed there, which has been one of my goals to work on holding my position. I struggled in the deep gravel at the turns, literally surfing through it. After the race, Ron said that it’s like cycle cross and you have to peddle through it. A few breaks tried to go off, but mostly single riders and nothing stuck. The gravel really took its toll with stranded riders lining that section of the course I assume with flats.

The lead out played outRead More »2013-03-24 Regalado Road Race Report 45+ 4

Race Report: Ward’s Ferry Road Race Report 35+ 4: by Mike Ewing

We had 36 starters; the weather was cool at mid 40’s. We had James Winne, Randy Floyd, Sean Lollar, and myself representing Body Concepts Race Team. The start time was delayed to 8:40, we rode to the race course for about 2 miles neutral.

The race started as usual at comfortable pace, everyone trying to warm up their legs. It was after the third lap the pace increased as we passed through the feed zone. Three riders went off the front, due the hilly course and multi-lap course fatigue had settled in. I did not try to catch; I conserved energy for the finish. Coming down the hills through the ranch area a Chipotle rider made a move, I grabbed his wheel. We were moving fast, as we made the sharp right turn after the ranch house area he went wide into the grass. Then I punched it, we were leading the chase group at this point. Then came the hills, the race came back together. As all of us approached the second to last hill Brian Baxter from B Plus moved ahead. I followed him closely, he started to fade but we moved ahead. I said to him that we had a gap and we sped away.

At the one kilometer mark we wereRead More »2013-03-23 Wards Ferry Road Race Report 35+ 4

2013-03-17 Bariani Road Race Report

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Results:

Date / Race: 2013-03-17 Bariani Road Race Report

Conditions: There were a lot of people (75 signed up). The roads were narrow. The weather was warm. The one redeeming factor was a steady 8mph wind from the NNW.
Body Concepts Bike Team riders: Rod, Sean, Gary, DJ, and Pete Gemmell.
The plan: Look for the others near the front of the pack on the west to east stretch prior to the final right turn with two miles to the finish. Set up a leadout train as feasible at that point. Priority #1 was to have fun.

Race Report: Bariani Road Race Report: by Pete Gemmell

The race: Forgive me for any inaccuracies. Sean patrolled the very front of the pack for almost the entire race, bringing in many attempted breaks. Gary took a fearsome pull in the right gutter on the 1st west to east stretch that kept a break of 2 riders within striking distance and guttered much of the pack. DJ came to the front on the last lap but, I believe, was jammed on the left side of the pack on the finishing straight. Rod broke off the front with about 1/2 lap to go, stayed awayRead More »2013-03-17 Bariani Road Race Report
