9-8-2013 Willow Hills Circuit Race (Folsom Cyclebration) Criterium 45+ 4

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by John Kretschmann: Sunday, September 8, 2013 Willow Hills Circuit Race (Folsom Cyclebration) Criterium 45+ 4:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: DJ Singh, John Kretschmann, Matt Conidaris, Pete Gemmell, Ron Faulk.

Field: Total of 35 registered riders.
Course: Course consisted of 7 laps, for a total of 16.8 miles. 2.4mi/lap, 16.8 total miles (7 total laps). 334′ total climbing (48’/lap). Fun course with a couple of small hills and a round-a-bout. Long sprint finish (~300m from the final corner). Closed course, good-to-excellent pavement..
Conditions: Perfect. Mid-70s, sunny, clear, light breeze.

Plan: Not much of a team strategy. Personally, was hoping to get a better placing than yesterday (14th) and was really focused on the strategy which I had planned to follow yesterday – sit-in, don’t waste energy unnecessarily, and follow the Goss/Fales train on the last lap.

Race: I rode to the race from home. Only took about 10 minutes. Used the same number as yesterday so I was already pinned and ready to go. Took one lap around the course to warm-up with just a couple of short jumps to test the legs and get the heart rate up. Pace was relatively slow at the start but picked up after the first lap. There were a couple of short-lived flyers in the first half the race that didn’t stick. I did a good job of Read More »9-8-2013 Willow Hills Circuit Race (Folsom Cyclebration) Criterium 45+ 4

8-24-2013 Winters Road Race 45+ 4 Report

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by Ron Faulk: 8-24-2013 Winters Road Race 45+ 4 Report:

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: Dave Bryant, DJ Singh, Gary Neiman, John Ensign, John Kretschmann, Matt Conidaris, Pete Gemmell, Ron Faulk.

Field: Total of 45 registered riders.
Course: Course consisted of 2 laps, for a total of 48 miles. 24 mile loop (twice), mostly flat with a few rollers and one stair step climb up Cantelow Road.
Conditions: Warm, clear, minimal wind

Plan: John E and Gary attack the Cantelow climb on the first lap and hope that they are joined by others. Remaining BC riders work the front to block and keep them away

Race: Okay, here you go…

Like John said, the first “break” was a two man group on the first lap almost as soon as we exited the neutral zone. One Cushman rider, one Pen Velo rider escaped and slowly disappeared down the road. I watched Cushman on the front of our group as they blocked and one BP rider was also at the front but he did not respond. I figured that it was really too soon for anyone to be attempting a break but also remembered Knight’s Ferry when two riders stayed away. A Davis rider attempted to bridge but never was able to catch the two escapees and he was caught before we hit the climb on Cantelow. BP spent some effort at the front trying to bring back the break and I rotated through a few times along with John, but I also was still thinking that there was a long way to go, which turned out to be correct when we Read More »8-24-2013 Winters Road Race 45+ 4 Report

2013-05-25 Folsom Classic Criterium Race Report 35+ 3/4

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report by John Kretschmann: Saturday, May 25, 2013 Folsom Classic Criterium Race Report 35+ 3/4

Teammates Representing Body Concepts: Randy Floyd, John Kretschmann

Field: Total of 76 registered riders. Us two against a whole bunch of Bikes Plus and Folsom Bike guys.

Race:

There was a bunch of primes but I really only challenged for one. Randy did a great job (as usual) of positioning himself near the front the entire race and, as usual, I was riding well behind wondering how the heck he stays up there!! I’d make the push up one side or the other of the pack only to get swallowed up again 1/2 lap later.

With 4 laps to go Randy and I bothRead More »2013-05-25 Folsom Classic Criterium Race Report 35+ 3/4

Race: 1st Annual El Dorado Hills Cyclocross
Date: 2012-10-13
Category/Field Size: Men 45+ B – Field Size 45

Race: The 1st Annual El Dorado Hills Cyclocross race was this past Saturday and what a race it was. I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to ride as my wife & I were heading up to Tahoe to celebrate our anniversary. However, the Master B race was early enough (10am) that I was able to sneak out in the morning:) Ron & myself represented BC in the 45+ category. I don’t think Sean raced.

They started all the Bs together (45 riders) and the course starts right off with a handful of sharp, technical corners and then a barely ride-able sand pit. It was really chaotic with riders un-clipping, falling down, etc. Somehow both Ron and I were able to navigate our way through to the first climb where things finally began to thin out. I managed to pass a bunch of riders here but the leaders had already built upRead More »2012-10-13 El Dorado Hills CycloCross 45+ B

Body Concepts Bicycle Race Team – Race Report: by John Kretschmann

Race: The 2nd race of the Sacramento Cyclocross series was this past weekend in Grass Valley at Condon Park.
Date: 2012-10-07
Category/Field Size: Men 45+ B – Field Size 24

Course Description: This is a great venue up at elevation in the pines with lots of shade, a lake, etc. Very challenging course that goes up, up, and up to the top of a ridge then down, down, down back to the start. There is probably more climbing in this race than in all the other races in the series combined. It’s also fairly technical, especially when it’s the last race of the day when the course is really chewed up. There are several tight corners with soft, loamy dirt and then there’s the u-turn hill. It’s short, steep, and by 2pm it consisted of about 6″ of soft dirt with nothing firm to get traction on. The only way it was rideable was Read More »2012-10-07 Sac CX CycloCross 45+ B
